"the word-of-mouth survival guide for LOS ANGELES parents"

We love Waterworks! My oldest daughter started lessons at Waterworks when she was almost 5. I was absolutely astonished at the progress she made almost instantly. Despite coming from a family of swim instructors and coaches I had never seen such a well thought out and implemented way of teaching swimming to young kids! My other child who was only 2 1/2 at the time also wanted to take lessons but I was a bit hesitant because she was so young. I put her in anyway and was also astonished at her progress. The swimming curriculum is wonderful but it is really the instructors at Waterworks that make it great. Both of my children loved their instructors. My youngest, who has had separation issues at other places, has amazingly had no problems at Waterworks - in fact, it has been one of the few places she goes where she has had nothing but positive feelings about! I believe this is because her instructor, Carmella, is so wonderful with her! I have also done water aerobics and swam laps at Waterworks - the water is beautiful, clean and always warm! To top it all off, the staff is super nice all the time! Waterworks is worth every penny!

I have only positive things to say about Waterworks Aquatics Swim School, the instructors, and the incredible progress my 6-year-old son has made.
My son started swim lessons in June, 2009. At that time he was scared to be in the water, would panic at the suggestion of swimming on his own (with the instructor within arm's reach), and would predictably meltdown into tears and yelling toward the end of every lesson.
His primary instructor was consistently calm, positive, and disciplined. He remained optimistic that my son would achieve success in the water and expressed a clear commitment to my son and to achieving that goal. When needed, he solicited and received assistance from other instructors, including the owner of the swim school and the assistant director, and at some lessons, there would be 2 or 3 instructors in the water during the lessons. (My son would definitely be considered a challenging case, though I have seen this kind of attention given to other swimmers as well.)
It's now November, 2009, approximately five months after my son's first lesson. The assistant director is currently my son's instructor (he took over the lessons after his previous instructor finished the summer) and my son is thriving in the water. He can jump in the pool on his own and successfully swim across the length of the pool without assistance. Our primary goal in starting swim lessons was my son's safety in the water; we simply wanted him to be able to get himself out of the pool if he should fall in. That goal has been achieved.
We have achieved our secondary goal as well: for my son to enjoy the water. A few weeks ago, his instructor came over to me at the end of the lesson and said it was the first time my son had seemed to like being in the water, to not only be able to complete the lesson but also to enjoy doing it. Now my son enthusiastically looks forward to his swim lessons, is excited to be in the water, and is able to consistently and successfully swim to the edge of the pool. He is currently working on developing his freestyle and back strokes.
A few final comments:
1. My son's instructors have been reliable (not a single missed lesson), prompt, and knowledgeable.
2. The lessons are structured, with specific short- and long-term goals. The instructors have met with me for a few minutes after each lesson to discuss my son's progress.
3. I personally have never felt any pressure to "buy more."
Thank you, Waterworks (and Todd, Jon, and Brad)!

We have been taking our 17 month old son to Waterworks Aquatics for several months now. They have the best facility and best teachers! If you want your children to enjoy swimming safely - I would highly recommend Waterworks Aquatics!

I love coming here! They just built another pool which helps now that the busy season coming around. But they facility has 3 full size pools that are heated to something "really" warm. The best is the instructors. I have had wonderful instructors from Mommy and Me classes to semi private. Even the random instructors I have had for make ups are great! I am not sure how they do their hiring but they do a great job. Only thing that can be frustrating is if you miss a class, trying to fine a good time to make it up in the set amount of time they give you can be hard. Highly recommend!

We have had two instructors since we started and really liked both of them. This is the first time we have taken lessons and the instructors have been so patient, kind and gentle yet very encouraging to keep him trying harder. They are great with kids. Plus the pool is like 92-93 degrees! And after each lesson the kids get a little treat from the office staff. Plus there is also play time in the pool before and after your lesson.
