Lisa's workshop is really special. You won't find a discussion like this anywhere else. Lisa has a way of taking some pretty profound, universal concepts and making them accessible and pertinent to a conversation about motherhood without dumbing those ideas down. For example, one week she talked about the "darker" side of maternal feelings -- those days when your kids really annoy the heck out of you and think evil thoughts. Lisa brought in Carl Jung's idea of "the shadow" -- that part of ourselves that we would rather not know about. Then we read a fairy tale that illustrated how the shadow works. The specifics of the fairy tale were actually amazingly appropriate to motherhood. She built on the fairy tale with a case of a mom and her experience with her twin daughters. All the while, there was plenty of room for lively discussion amongst those of use who were participating. It gave me a whole new perspective on those kinds of feelings, and at the end, I really did see how meeting that side of myself could help me grow as a person, even if it is painful. This workshop is truly thought-provoking, engagin, and most of all inspiring, and I would recommend it to any mom!

I'm so grateful for this workshop. It came at the perfect time in my life and has helped me see what I'm doing with new eyes.

Lisa’s thoughts on motherhood strike me as truly fresh and new, and her presentation is quite moving. She uses fairy tales to discuss motherhood, which give her work an imaginative feel, almost like writing your own story. It’s rare to find a person who has thought about the changes of motherhood as deeply as Lisa has.
Lisa’s workshop speaks especially to experienced mothers, which is great because most parenting groups are geared towards new mothers. Also, the group of women she gathered was perfect for these discussions, and my friendships continued even after the group was over.
All in all, I found something deeply valuable in Lisa’s work. She sustained me in the hard times of parenting and encouraged me to grow. I am so grateful that I took part in this workshop! I know it seems impossible to find the time for a discussion group when you’re busy with young children, but this experience truly brought deeper meaning to my daily life as a mother.

I took this workshop as I was just about to give birth to my first child. This was such a welcome change from the more "care and feeding"-oriented groups I had seen. What a treat!! Lisa's style was very down-to-earth and open and the material she used to guide the discussions was interesting, fun and incredibly rich. This group met my need for deeper exploration and had such a good vibe I hated to see it end. I asked Lisa to continue to meet with us and she generously agreed. This scratches my itch for regular and ongoing dialogue with smart, insightful women and I never leave disappointed. I do want to add that in our original larger group there were varying levels of awareness and needs for support among members and, as a therapist myself, I was very impressed with Lisa's ability to shift some participants' attention and flexibly provide additional support when the need occasionally arose. I really liked her ability to stay neutral and non-judgmental when intense stuff occasionally came up for some women (which wasn't overly frequent), and she has been willing to share from her own experience, sometimes refreshingly honestly. Her humble approach went far in making me feel safe to self-disclose. My only dislike was that it was time-limited, which was addressed and remedied to my delight!!

I participated in the six week Motherhood as a Journey of Transformation workshop in the spring of 2006 and continue to meet with Lisa and members of the original group on a monthly basis. Lisa has helped us to better understand ourselves as mothers and as individuals. The use of fairytales to structure the discussion is interesting and a fascinating tool to for examining all aspects of our experience as mothers, the joys and frustrations. Lisa is sensitive to the needs of each group member and keeps the discussion focused so that we come away with new insights each time we meet.
