 Target is a store that is fun to look at, and easy to load a cart up in, but once you get to the checkout, you often can't believe how much you spent. In a word, it's over-priced. They used to have excellent clearances, but now they have started to get stingy. Those clearances used to START AT 30% and go to 75% or more; now they start at 15% and sometimes the same items will stay at those prices for weeks or longer! A lot of their "one spot" items (which used to be only $1, but now also cost more than a dollar for certain things) are very low quality, especially the socks, which fall apart and don't stretch or fit average size women's feet. Fun to look around in but over-priced on so many items. A good place to get ideas from but not really to buy anything in. Also, their brands are limited and they tend not to carry a lot of common items that you would expect from a department store. Particularly, they are lacking in the hardware department, and their electronics department is similarly not as large as one might like or expect.

If you can buy slightly off-season you can pay a lot less for kids clothes. I often have to guess on what size my sons will be for the following year
