As a parent it is difficult to admit that despite loving your child, your relationship with him is difficult. Our son had extraordinary tantrums... despite everything we did...a nurturing, kind environment, good nutrition, good sleep patterns. I was at my wit's end. Everything, I mean everything was a constant struggle and test of wills which inevitably seemed to result in a tantrum. With the help of Carolyn Friedman of SmartLove, I learned 1) why these tantrums were happening 2) how to manage my own emotions 3) how to manage circumstances from which tantrums would arise and 4) how to help our son to manage his own emotions. Unlike discipline which merely stops undesirable behavior, this is discipline which helps me as a parent to understand the origins of that behavior and how to help my child to ultimately manage his own emotions in a positive way.
