I kept a "first 12 months" photo diary for each of my children. The first 2 children I had photos taken mostly at WalMart due to prices and reasonably good results. I since switched to Sears with better results, however I would go to a professional if you want professional poses, props, etc. The photographers just take rote photos with an automated camera, and depending on who you get, you never know how much work you'll end up doing coaxing the smile from your baby or suggesting cute poses that are not the same as those in the last several months' you had taken. I do come back, but the quality is spotty. I've opted for the prints immediately for an extra charge due to convenience. I've found that although they're supposed to be water-resistant and are touted as being better quality than the lab matte photos, mine always stuck together if it so much as got too humid and they weren't sufficiently separated. I'd be hesitant to suggest the in-store prints if you're a fanatic about quality.

Don't buy the pictures they print right away they are horrible! Make sure your pictures are centered. otherwise good pictures.
