QuoteWe USED to go to Dr. Birk too. My oldest son (18 months at the time) had a chronic cough. He'd cough so hard that he'd throw up DAILY. It was extremely stressful and frustrating. So I took him in to see Dr. Birk. Dr. Birk walked into the exam room and said, first thing: "What are YOU doing here again?" Had my child not been undressed to a diaper, I would have walked right out. Needless to say, we switched pediatricians. When we had our first appointment with our new ped, the first thing she said to us was "What are you doing to manage your son's asthma?" She promptly got him on the correct meds and he' been great since then. I don't expect doctors to get the prefect diagnosis every time. I DO expect them to treat their patients and parents with respect.

QuoteWe have just recently relocated to Michigan, and are in the process of interviewing pediatricians out here. I have to say my husband and I really miss Dr. Birk and never knew how good we had it. Our daughter had four pretty bad ear infections, as well as the typical sicknesses you encounter during the first year. Dr. Birk was always calm, professional, had great bedside manner, and was a tremendous advocate for our daughters health. He is funny too! We never had a problem getting her in for an appointment and the staff were very understanding when we had something we wanted to discuss right away. We really enjoyed our appointments. We highly recommend him and feel he was the very best pediatrician for us after interviewing four others in the area.

QuoteI'm surprised to see the negative comments about Dr. Bruce Birk. My two boys go to him and we love him. He is kind and friendly to both my boys. They respond very well with him. He is very conventional and has given me great information. My boys were with another Doctor we loved but had to change due to insurance and Dr Bruce Birk is a great replacement. He actually made me see the difference from my old doctor who I really, really loved. Dr. Birk gives me a ton more information and feel fine giving his name out to friends and family. And I've never heard of the 15minute arrival before my scheduled appt. I have three children so we are just making some times.

QuoteOverall I feel that Pediatric Associates has many wonderful doctors. However, one doctor that I do not recommend is Dr. Bruce Birk. Not only is he very unprofessional he put his own interests above the needs of his patients. My nephew was seen by Dr. Birk a few years ago and he made bad decisions based on trying to "look good". When my niece was born he suggested to a nurse that the parents change her name!!! It's none of his business what a parent names their child! This doctor gives Pediatric Associates a bad name.

QuoteI was very interested in seeing all of the comments on Dr. Bruce Birk. We didn't have any problems with him at first. Those of you that take your child to this clinic know that check in time is 15 min. prior to the appointment time. Well there is a lot of construction near of the office and parking at the office can be difficult. We were 12 min. late for CHECK IN time. But not late for the appointment. My husband and I were told that we would have to reschedule the appointment because we were late for the check in. I had made this appointment 2 months prior. After going a couple of rounds with the receptionist I asked her to speak with the MA (medical asst.). I was then told that the MA said that we needed to reschedule. I then asked to speak with Dr. Birk myself. I could not imagine that any MD would send us away for being 12 min. late for a check in. I was wrong. He told the receptionist that we had to reschedule. After another couple of go arounds with the superviser we were told that Dr. Evans-Smith had an opening and could see us in 20 min. We said fine. We had seen her when our newborn was very sick and liked her very much. I asked if I could use the restroom to change my babies diapher. As I walked past Dr. Birk's office I noticed him sitting in his chair with his feet propped up, kicking back. Very anger I went about changing the diapher. On my way back to the waiting room I got a slap on the back from Dr. Birk with the comment of "Don't take it personally". I was taken back by all of this. He refused to see us based on principle. Wanting to make an example of us. I am an nurse, and we would never do this to any of our patients. Our patients have come at wrong times and even wrong days. We do everything to accommdate our patients. I shared my story with some of our doctors that I work with. All were in complete shock that an MD would do this. Needless to say we won't be going back to see him.
