I was excited to bring my daughter here when she was nine months old or so, but unfortunately there are waist-high bushes surrounding all of the animals so she couldn't see them from the stroller (and I couldn't take her out for every animal or she wouldn't want to get back and and you know how that is!). Also, the zoo is hard to navigate and frankly pretty depressing. I have mom friends who like it but honestly I can't understand why!

The Los Angeles Zoo has lots to see, and is a fun adventure for kids. But make sure to either bring a stroller or rent one there, because it's a lot of walking, and somewhat hilly. There are a lot of animals, but you don't get that up-close and personal feeling that you get at the smaller Santa Barbara Zoo. There is a great kids playground with equipment to climb on and misters during warm weather (which is great, because it definitely gets hot in the summer). Usually, the playground is more crowded than the rest of the zoo.
