This zoo is so tragic! I always feel so sorry for the FEW animals that they have there. It's always empty and there are very very animals that are actually on display.

We have a membership to the LA Zoo, the membership pays for itself right away simply in free tickets to get in. My 15 month old son LOVES seeing the animals. We have books at home where we have taught him various animals and it is always a blast to go to the zoo and find the animals he knows.
My favorite exhibit is the gorilla exhibit. The last several times I've been there they've been up to something interesting. The best was seeing the mommy gorilla nursing her baby. My son knew what was going on and the mommy gorilla was completely engrossed in our (my friend's and mine) babies, she seemed to understand that we had babies just like her.
If you can, going mid week is best as there are not a ton of people there and it's easier to see the animals.
It's a cheap, educational thing to do with your kids!

The LA Zoo is another great place for a day out. I liked to go when my kid had half days at school, less crowded on weekdays. Its fun for the kids to run around a learning experience as well.

This is a great zoo. By far better during the week than on the weekends. Exhibits are great!

I bought the family membership for $75. Covers 2 adults and your children. It is great for us because we go during the week when it isn't crowded.
