"the word-of-mouth survival guide for SAN FRANCISCO parents"

I received a complimentary consultation with a lactation nurse during my stay at the El Camino hospital maternal wing. The consultant from Maternal Connections was very nice and helpful, and she told to call if I have any follow up questions. I called, but was very rudely told that I already had my complimentary visit and would have to pay for further consultation. I then explained that i just had a quick follow up 'yes/no' quick question, and she then relented and said she'll have someone call me back when they have time, as if I was a real bother. When you're in the throes of being a new mom, anxiously trying to grasp how to breastfeed, it really could melt you down to have someone be so rude to you when they could have easily asked if my question was a quick one if I needed a consultation.

I really enjoyed the service.

Pat, a former midwife, and the rest of her lactation consultants are sent by God. They're simply amazing. They all have different techniques and suggestions but all are supportive and available. Pat's staff provide all of the classes at Good Sam and run the store, where you can get everything you need whether or not you delivered there. My one complaint about the store is that they don't encourage you to get fitted for a bra until about 5 days after your milk comes in. I wanted SOMETHING before hand and they wouldn't even fit me! I ended getting a Medela stretchy kind that was great near the end of my hospital stay and for the first few months.

They helped me throughout my breastfeeding experience with my daughter. I went the first three months to their support group on Tuesdays and Thursdays which were VERY informative. It was nice to get advice from the facilitators and other moms who had babies around the same age as my daughter. I now go every other week to get my daughter weighed and ask questions if I have any.
The laction consultants are outstanding. I went for a consultation with Claire and although the consult is quite pricey (about $120) it was worth the money. If I had not gone to the consult, I don't think I would still be breastfeeding. My husband says the return on investment is worth it. :)
Their gift shop is wonderful and the staff is very helpful.

The lactaction consultants are excellent and the nursing bra selection and fittings are wonderful!
