QuoteWhen I drive into Maplewood to meet a friend at Cooper Ella, I do so for my son's sake. We pass plenty of other coffee houses with good food, great atmosphere, and better hours (they close at 5!). But, what they don't have are toys. The toy area is the draw of Cooper Ella for myself and plenty of other moms. That said, you would think they had great toys, but they don't. Their toys are old, broken, dirty, and wouldn't even sell at a garage sale. Are these the owner's kids outgrown toys? They are certainly used, very used. And while I understand that you wouldn't want toys with batteries making loud noises, but rather than finding toys that simply don't make noises, they have tons of battery toys with the batteries taken out. So they don't do anything! My son hands them to me to turn on, since he doesn't get it. Well, that makes two of us!

QuoteWe love going to the cafe. The kiddos can play and I can sit with a friend and talk and know that my kiddos are safe! Food is a little expensive but definitely worth it!

QuoteWhat a great concept! The staff was lovely, the food was good and our little ones were entertained for hours while my friends and I chatted in peace. We're all transplants from New York, Chicago and Seattle and are always trying to find places like we could "at home". This place felt like one of those cosmopolitan gems you find in larger cities. They also have Craft Nights that are really fun...drink some wine, hang out w/ the girls and get crafty with others.

QuoteI was really shocked to read the first review because it doesn't sound at all like the place I've been frequenting since this past Fall. First of all...everytime I've been there the staff was constantly cleaning, sweeping (up after kids whose parents allow them to walk around with muffins, etc) and I have witnessed them bring out new toys after they've been sanitized. In fact, I commented to a staff member one day about how often she was over there cleaning. She mentioned that the owner was a former elementary school teacher and was a clean freak....always stressing cleaning. Secondly, I've had staff and the owner hold doors open for me, help me to my table and bend over backwards to make sure I have a good experience. They know me by name, know what I drink and know my child's name. The food is the same size, price, quality etc that you would get at a Bread Co or similar place. I've been in the children's bathroom a few times when it hasn't had the most pleasant odor but then again when moms are plopping dirty diapers by the dozen that's gonna happen. Most of all I like that it's owned by a local family....they are very community minded and are some of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of meeting since moving here.

QuoteWe were really underwhelmed by the whole experience at CooperElla Cafe. The place was dirty, it was kind of barren with little decor, the toys were of garage sale quality at best, the food was expensive and portions were a joke, the kids menu is lame especially for a cafe that says it caters to kids (the same three or four things you see on EVERY kids menu, but more expensive and even smaller portions). The bathroom smelled worse than an outhouse. We were also puzzled by the fact that the kids stuff is quarantined to half of the space, when the whole place is marketed as a kid's cafe...who are they trying to protect? The workers were also kind of "seedy and dirty" - not the sort you want preparing your food. Very disappointed. This concept has so much potential!
