We went here for my daughter's first haircut today. We really just needed the hair not to be in her eyes since she won't wear barettes etc. I showed the stylist how her hair from the side falls into her face. She wanted to part it in the middle to cut it but I told her we part it on the side. She cut it all over, then asked if it was ok. I said, "as long as it's not falling in her face" She said she could comb it straight down in front and then trim it...is that what I wanted...(I'm thinking...I don't know...I don't cut hair, that's why I'm here. I don't want her to look like Moe) but tried to get more info from her because I didn't know how that would look. She just kept repeating that it was up to us. Then she got defensive and said, "I've been doing this for 17 years...." I wasn't being rude, I just didn't understand what she was explaining to me. She told me to put it in a barette...I told her if we could do that we wouldn't be getting a hair cut. She kept telling me to use a barette. She said that her natural hair "flow" would keep it out of her eyes, so we must be styling against it's "flow" (we don't "style" her hair. She doesn't have enough of it. We part it in the place where the stylist told us is her natural part). Then she really wanted to put product in her hair, and I didn't really want her to. My daughter wandered off and the stylist put this stinky stuff in that she said would make her hair curlier (it actually made it straighter). Then as we were checking out, she told us that they didn't have film OR certificates for the first haircut memento (one of the reasons we went there) so she taped a pile of her hair to a piece of paper and wrote the date etc. on it. It's gross. I think she deliberately waited to tell us until afterwards so we wouldn't leave. We should have gone to Great Clips and brought a DVD player...would have been much cheaper and I wouldn't have left mad. The website advertises Baby Einstein DVD (which my daughter loves) but they didn't have it (it was too scratched up) and advertised the first haircut certificate--they didn't have either.

I have taken my kids (1 and 3) here for haircuts three times. I think that overall they do an OK job. My son (17 months) had a little bit of a hard time but they are very patient. Because he moved around a bit, his haircut ended up a little uneven but I didn't notice until we got home. They have done a nice job with my daughter's hair every time she has gotten a cut. They have a rewards program for frequent customers which earns you discounts on future cuts and hair products. The kids watch a DVD or play a video game while their hair is cut. Small children can sit in a special taxi cab or fire truck chair. They also have a small play area for those who are waiting for a haircut with legos, a Thomas train set and DVD/TV player. They are a little bit expensive (around $16 for a kids' cut) so I think I'll try to see if a place with less kids' stuff works just as well.

We took our two year old for his very first haircut and he enjoyed himself (as much as a kid can enjoy a haircut). They give you a keepsake holder with a lock of hair and a photograph. The hairdresser did an excellent job with minimal input from me - I wanted to 'keep some curls' but did not have an opinion on the style or lengh.

My son loved watching a dvd while getting his haircut. The people were nice and took their time giving him an excellent haircut. I did not feel like they were rushing like some other places.

Kids get to pick a dvd and watch it in a firetruck, airplane etc...while they get their haircut.
