Wow! From the comments below, it seems this practice is provocative. Lots of extremely positive or extremely negative perspectives! We've taken all three of our boys to this practice for the last 7 years. When we started, they were 9,4 and 1. Now they are 16, 11 and 7. We selected it at first because it was very highly rated (Washingtonian Magazine "Top Docs") and personally recommended (our son's preschool teacher took her daughter there). For us, the quality of care -- diagnosis, responsiveness, follow-up and accuracy HAVE lived up to the hype. When we selected it, we lived in Dupont/Kalorama and it was "in the neighborhood." Now we've moved across town to the Palisades, and we still drive across town. Over this past weekend, my 16 year old has developed "Flu-like symptoms." I just called for an appointment. I did wait on hold for about 7 minutes. I was given an appointment for today at 3:30. This in the middle of the H1N1 hysteria. No issues, no problem, no attitude. Now, I will say, FOR GOOD REASONS, this has been an extremely popular practice. There are some consequences and inconveniences that go along with that. In particular, if you want one of the most popular doctors in the spring/summer months, it does take a while to get appointments for the annual check up -- 2-3 months from when you call. However, now that DC Health Department will accept physicals from ANY month in the year, rather than just from April through August, this should help. When desperate, we've also just used one of the less popular docs -- they're just as good, just their name wasn't in Washingtonian Magazine. And you can get an appointment even the same week! I would say that the check in process is efficient and not overly friendly. But not "rude." For the reasons I just stated, on any given day, they are trying to process as many patients as possible. To the comments made by Smith2: The patients of this practice are surprisingly diverse, no matter what your biases or expectations. There are clearly very affluent families , of all ethnicities, as well as those who appear to be of more moderate income. I'm sure their insurance pays their bills just fine. However this is a good thing. Not only for all the obvious reasons, but also because, this practice is affiliated with Children's National Medical Center, which is a TEACHING HOSPITAL. So, most of the docs are also teachers, and some of the docs are residents in training. It means they have access to top facilities, research findings and docs for referrals. It also means their education benefits from the diversity of disease and health conditions present in a multicultural urban practice. Obviously, this is a good thing, too! So I do highly recommend this practice -- even though the waiting room is small, and I have to plan ahead to get annual physicals. Even though I worry about it on every visit, in 7 years with 3 kids, none has ever gotten sick after a well visit to our doctor!

Most of the other review, whether positive or negative, are fairly accurate. The waiting room is small and crowded and doesn't make one think clean even though it isn't that bad. The doctors and nurses have been wonderful and we've always gotten an appointment when we needed it (I made one this week in under 5 minutes).

I have been taking my daughter here since the late 1990s, who has suffered from severe Asthma. My youngest is now 3 yrs and I would not even consider taking her any place else!! The doctors/staff are amazingly wonderful, supportive and truly care about my kids and their well being. The office is clean and practical. Yes, they're an extremly busy practice and that is why I appreciate their efforts in creating the newly added office space located on the 3rd floor in the same building!!!! which by the way made my last visit in May very quick! As long as the Drs and staff continue to provide excellent quality and affordable health care for ALL CHILDREN, I could care less about what types of families come to this practice.

I have to comment on the last reviewer "Smith2" -what a total idiot. Smith2's review seems primarily based on dumb assumptions about "nonpaying African-Americans" in what she disappointedly assumed would be a predominately white clientele of 'lawyers and politician' types. What an A-hole. I take my kids to this practice. I am a lawyer but I'm not white (or black actually). I have no problem with the clientele and have no reason to think they and their insurance company don't pay the bills. Pls base your review on first hand knowledge not played out racism. Hey Smith2 - don't worry last time I checked blackness is not contagious so your kids are safe. Unfortuntely for your kids, racism and ignorance can be hereditary. Poor things.

Here's the deal with this place -- despite being located coveniently to downtown DC and "ritzy" D.C. areas like Georgetown, Dupont Circle, and Kalorama -- where there are lots of lawyer and politican mom and pops, at least half of their client base is poor moms from outside of NW (i.e., predominantly African American). Don't know why that is, but it's the case. The office is not that nice. The receptionists absolutely suck (probably because they mostly deal with poorer patients that can't pay). But if you deal with all of that, most of the doctors are great.
