Nice setting near Lewis Middle school and the Allied Gardens Rec center with large grassy areas that soccer teams often use. There's a tot lot and a bigger kids play area, and a large shaded area for sand play. However, I've experienced a few problems. Last summer there were fire ants living in the sand, which the guy in the office said they couldn't do anything about. People regularly let their dogs off leash although they're not supposed to, and they run through the play area. Weekdays, there are often if not always PE classes from Lewis running around the pathway and sometimes going onto the play area to play. Bathrooms are closed if the office is closed, even though they were remodeled to have locks from the inside so they could always be open. That's because they had problems with vandalism, but it's still a problem if you go on the weekend. If you go on a holiday, like the 4th of July, you'll find trashcans overflowing, people overindulging, and doing illegal things like setting of fireworks from the picnic tables. Weekends there are tons of birthday parties here, also making for crowds. For best results, come on a weekday morning on a non-holiday (they observed Cesar Chavez day, for instance, and the restrooms were closed though schools were open).
