Hi, my soon-to-be 2year old daughter has begun climbing out of her crib multiple times a night. She usually scrapes herself on the way down but continues to endure the pain for the exhilaration of the escape. I can only find 2 types of crib tents available online, the original Crib Cozy and the Crib Cozy II, both of which do not fit any cribs where the 4 corners are not the same height. We have a lovely high-back convertible crib with attached dresser on the side. At this point converting the crib to a toddler bed really isn't an option due to our house having stairs. Any ideas to find one that might fit? Hurry please!  ;)

Your child is ready for a toddler bed. I suggest putting a fence in front of the door so she cannot leave the room. If that doesn't work I used to use a doorknob thing to be used on the outside of the door for the parents to get in for a short time unless they are potty training.

If you still have her int he crib, contact a baby gear boutique.  They are much more knowledgeable about baby gear than a baby superstore and they will know about all of the latest items.  There has to be a solution out there- the "lifetime" cribs are so popular right now- I have one myself.

Good luck and post your results!

PS- if you are looking for a good baby gear boutique- try mbeans.com  They are a great retailer in the Brookline, MA area, but I believe they do a national web-based business!  But can't hurt to call- they staff is so knowledgeable!

Generally speaking, once a child starts climbing out of a crib it is time to move them to a toddler bed. They are safer in a toddler bed than a crib enclosed with netting. I’d be concerned that the child would still try climbing out of crib out even with the netting in place. This can lead to a dangerous situation. Your best bet is, as suggested, is to move the child to a toddler bed and baby proof the room. I highly recommend installing a hardware mounted safety gate at the top of the stairs as soon as a child begins crawling. It’s also a good idea to baby proof doorknobs to prevent access to dangerous places such as the stairs.

I’d begin the process of teaching the child to find comfort and relaxation in their toddler bed. It takes some patience but no more than it took to get them to sleep in their crib. :)
