To all of you expectant parents:

Please consider hiring a doula in your birth plan.  Our website www.dona.org is very informative and you can find a doula in your area.  My name is Jane and I work at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in belleville, IL as a staff doula.  We offer our doula services FREE to every parent in labor.

 Hi Jane,

I live in California, but have been thinking about hiring a doula.  Thanks for the tip and the website.

I didn't hire a doula for my daughter's birth because I was going to a physician/midwife collaborative practice.  I felt that the "high touch" care I received from the midwives would be a good substitute.  Unfortunately, it really didn't turn out that way and I wished I'd had someone helping me and advocating for me throughout the process.  My husband was amazing, but it's not the same.  I think the work you do is fantastic!

I think a Doula is an amazing resource for women throughout pregnancy, birth, and post-partum!  Hoo-Ray for Doulas!

I used a doula for both of my deliveries, the first was with an OB/GYN and the second with a midwife.  She was awesome both times and really took the anxiety off of my husband.  It didn't hurt that she is also a massage therapist so she knew pressure points to apply during labor and healthy snacks and breathing tips.  It is totally worth whatever the cost.

Yay for doulas! I didn't hire one, but I did have my mother and two sisters there with me for both my births. Had I not had them I would have hired one for sure, even though my midwife was very attentive during the whole labor. I did have a postpartum doula after my second son's birth and she was wonderful to have!
