To get this contest started, we thought it would be fun to let you all know how Carley Roney, Founder and Editor-In-Chief of LilaGuide's parent website The Knot, Inc cleverly named her children!  Read on to hear the story:

"My 11yr old daughter is named Havana Rose Liu. To this day I get asked, “Did you conceive in Havana?” and sadly, the answer to that question is “I wish!”  Havana is, in fact, the name of a cool Cuban club in Washington, DC where my husband and I had way too much fun the summer we first met. It’s basically where we... sorry to sound sappy… fell in love. So, Havana, seemed the perfect meaningful name for our first child. We couldn’t very well name the next baby John -- so now we also have a Cairo (4)  and baby Dublin (8mos) in the mix. We’ve decided that, on the occasion of their 16th birthday, we’ll take a family trip to their namesake. Havana here we come!"

Click here for a larger view.  Sophia Marie, age 3

In my head I was leaning toward Sydney (after Jennifer Garner's awesome character in Alias), but whenever she would kick I would immediately call her Sophia.  Figured in the end I had to go with my instinct.  Her and I share our middle names.

From Joslyn Olivia growing up

Our daughter's name is Joslyn Olivia she is 11 months. I have always pictured having a daughter named Joslyn... but we went with a different spelling. My full name is Jacklyn, so we gave Joslyn the last 3 letters of my full name. Her middle name means "peace" which fits her 100% since she is a miracle baby! She was our 3rd preg in 11 months. When she was born.... she gave us peace. Her initials are J.O.S.  which is also the first three letters of her first name.

Jacky

My son's name is Alex.  No, not Alexander, just Alex.  My husband found out that we were having a boy,  but I wanted to be surprised.  We wanted to come up with at least three names for each gender, and decide when we first met him/her which name it would be--and then one of the others would be the middle name.  Literally, within the first five seconds of holding my son in my arms, I turned to my husband and said, "Oh this is Alex."  He said that he thought the same thing when he first saw him too.

We actually struggled with a middle name, since neither of the others fit with Alex or with him, so we turned to the internet and searched for meaning.  I proposed Thomas, to which the hubs said no way!  My brain works in funny ways, so I threw out Dylan (Dylan Thomas, get it?); he looked up its meaning (son of the waves) and a name was born.

Even though we weren't finding out the sex, we (and everyone else) really thought we were having a boy. My husband and I couldn't decide on a girl name, but never talked seriously because we didn't think we needed one. When our baby was born 11 weeks early and a GIRL we were a little thrown off (when the doctor held her up and asked me to say if it was a boy or a girl, I even said boy because I was so sure). Emma was the only name we both liked and when we saw her in the NICU it seemed perfect for her. We tried to find a middle name that meant "fighter" but that isn't very easy with a girl, so her middle name is Naomi after one of her grandmothers. I can't imagine her having any other name :)

Annalise

We chose Annalise's name to honor her two wonderful grandmothers.  It is a combination of their middle names- Ann and Alice.

My son, Jordan, is the love of my life. We searched through dozens of baby name books and couldn't settle on the right name. We were really focused on the "J" names and had two others in mind. After Jordan was born, it took us very little time to finalize the decision to name this beautiful baby "Jordan"! We loved the name and now it completely fits!

My daughter got her name, Emma, because my husband and I just loved it.  We always dreamed of having a little girl named Emma since we first started dating.

My son, Matthew, got his name from my husband's middle name, which is his mother's maiden name, we call him Matty.

My daughter's name is Kadence.  We came up with the name due to my husband's military background(cadence--military march).  Also it was one of the few names we both likes.

My son's name is Aiden.

My husband and I both have names starting with an A and we wanted something for our baby that started with an A.  I really love the name Aiden and once he was born my husband agreed.  His middle name is Robert after my husband's grandfather who passed away while I was pregnant.

Hi My name is kelli...

My son is Robert anthony hernandez. His birthdate was on election day. So I had to pick something increadibly strong. Robert is his fathers middle name and the rest just fits. Hopefully he will become something great and i can show the world how cute he is.
