On average - about how often does your child have what you would dub a "major" meltdown?

I know these kind of tantrums are somewhat common in the toddler years, and somewhat wane into childhood.

Do you have a boy?  A girl?  Maybe both?

What differences do you see in their expression of anger or frustration?  Can you tell what sets them off?  How about where do the meltdowns most occur?  Do you have strategies for dealing with it?  Are they successful strategies?

I'd like to hear all about what you think is normal - or not so normal.

 Thanks!

We have a red headed boy that is almost 2.5... yup.. as you can imagine tantrums are frequent. Major ones I would say depends on the day but 1 face down in the middle of a public place screaming a day minimum. Our major issue is hitting though. Which only gets worse as he becomes more frustrated. Distraction is a major key for us or if he is unmanageable he goes to his room until he can calm down. That seems to help Expression.... his arm goes up to hit- it can come out of left field most times. What are you experiencing and how are you dealing?
