Sweet Potatoes- These were the first veggies I gave my son.  Simply steam in the microwave or bake in the oven.  Scoop out the middle, and puree with a little bit of water for thin consistency.  For older infants, just steam and mash!

Squash-  I found it easiest to cut the squash in half, place face down in a baking pan with an inch or so of water.  Bake for 30-40 minutes (400 degrees) depending on the size of the squash.  You know it is done when the top browns a little.  Scoop out the flesh, puree with a little bit of water.

Sweet Potatoes & Squash both freeze really well!

Green Beans & Peas- Once I knew my son could handly a little more texture, I offered these to him.  Just steam and puree with water (long enough for the skins to blend).  He loved them!  Now they are some of his favorite foods to self-feed.

I loved making my son's baby food when he was just learning to eat!

Here are some tips I learned.  Having a food processor is a must - many babyfoods will not come out smooth enough with a blender.  If you cannot buy one right now - ask someone if you can borrow theirs.  Use the liquid from cooking to soften the mixture to your desired smoothness.

Making your baby's food couldn't be easier.  I used to make ahead food for one week intervals in about 1 hour on the weekend.  I'm a working mom - so finding the time was a bit of a trick, but we found our way.

Glad brand containers makes an awesome little 1/2 cup size container with a mostly spill proof snap on top.  Your largest expense is buying the initial supplies - then it's just a matter of reuse, reuse, reuse and eventually - recycle.

Note: Remember to use a non-plastic dish when reheating in the microwave.

Thanks for the tips, Joyful1!  I will start a thread for general tips/how-to's right now.

I used a blender because my food processor gave out, and it was ok because my son could handle more texture from the very beginning.  I know many babies need smoother food when first trying solids, so good advice about the food processor!
