The average Lebanese person speaks six languages. This is largely because of the way in which their children are raised (they tease and interact with their children with a lot of different languages). It is difficult to overestimate the social, professional and business advantages that this fluency creates.

A recent Chinese publication states that a different part of the brain is involved for dyslexic speakers of Chinese than for dyslexia for other languages. It also suggests that the low incidence of dyslexia in Italy may be due to the fact that written Italian is very similar to spoken Italian (this probably also the case for Koreans).
A 19 year old woman moved with her family from London to California when she was 2 weeks old. She is the oldest child in her family. Currently she still has a strong British accent for a dozen or so words.
Raising a congenitally blind baby requires that you describe what you are doing. Since the baby can't see, you have to say things like "I'm opening the frig...getting some milk..."
