I am not sure what areas you are looking in , but Providence Park Pediatrics is a great practice.

They are in Novi- Beck Rd and Grand River.

We like Drs Attisha and Newcombe.

We have seen a few of the others and have loved them as well.

They have a brand new office, great hours, great staff, are easy to get into at the last minute, very helpful nurse line...I could go on..

When we had Duncan, we had only been downriver a little while so I didn't know what Dr to ask for, we just took whomever was on call.  We had great luck, Dr. Nayak is wonderful!  He's expanded his practice and moved --  he used to be up on Soutfield but is now on Northline right across from that Montessori school and MichWorks and all that.  (South side of the road east of Sams Club).  He now has a partner and a nurse practitioner, we've seen them all and like them as well.  The office is pretty laid-back about our delayed-fax status, too, which is pretty hard to find from what I understand.

I live around that area & my children go to the Center for Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine in Troy on Big Beaver.  Their number is 248-816-1300.  They have 5 doctors in the practice & all are very nice.  I also have friends that go to Rainbow Pediatrics in Birmingham  (248) 816-1420 and to Dr. Jay Eastman & Associates (Rainbow & Eastman share a building) and their number is (248) 645-1740.  All of the offices offer free consulations where you can tour their facilities and meet the drs.  I recommend that you set up apts & see who you feel most comfortable with.

We have been with CPAM for 3 years now & are very happy with them.  They have a fairly low wait time & have always been able to get my kids in that day if they are sick.  Good luck!

I love mine, Merrillwood Pediatrics on Woodward in RO.   248-543-1545. The staff is great, doctors are wonderful.  I've called with some embarassingly simple questions and they've always treated me like it was the most important question they have had all day.  :)

I am also in Royal OakDr. Jay Eastman is super nice and very much into literacy. I did not see him as a ped for my kids but he is a developmental speaker for Beaumont's Parenting Program and has always been so helpful.

When my younger daughter was born we were at Merrillwood. They are ok but overall I didn't like the way I was treated there so I moved on. I completely understand that they are busy but they are so inflexible with scheduling for a sick visit. So many times I would call and they couldn't see us until the next day or they would tell me to go to after care. And yes I was calling in the morning. I also got a lot of bad advice from the nurses there and when I would ask to leave a message for the doc instead of getting advice from them they seemed very put off.

I am now at Pediatric Specialist of Bloomfield Hills and I love it there. It's a bit of a drive from our location but it's worth it. Here is the web site: http://www.pedspecialists.com/psa.aspThere is also another ped office across Woodward that I have heard great things about but I can't remember the name of the practice.

May I also suggest that you find a wellness doctor, such as a Naturopath or Chiropractor.  I find that if my child is eating properly and getting enough sleep, and is getting drug free care, she is doing great.  She is six years old and has only been to the Pediatrician when she is sick, which has been twice, once for high fever (ear infection) that didn't go away, (three days) and bladder infection (not yet fully potty trained and would only use a diaper for #2)  There are many resources out there to help guide you through minor illnesses that your child doesn't necessarily need to go to the Pediatricians office for.  Suggestions www.icpa4kids.org  www.holisticmoms.org  www.mothering.com  This is just a suggestion and does not take the place of medical care in emergencies or serious illness.  Many children have medical conditions that do require constant medical supervision and treatment, however, if you desire natural health and wellness, there are no better resources than your Chiropractor or Naturopath.  Start looking with these websites, and with healthy eating habits!! It will not be easy, but it is SO worth it!  If you desire any other information, I would be happy to help!!!  www.TLChiropractic.net  Recently it has been published that cold and cough medicines are not recommended for kids!!  We have known this for years, the cough supressents are dangerous and dosing is not an exact science, which has caused alot of problems.  Also, a cold or cough needs to run it's course, coughing expels the toxins out, which is why we cough, supressing it can cause more sreious lung infections.  Try locally harvested honey to soothe the throat and warm tea (herbal).  Also have a clean humidifier handy, use it at first sign of a cold.  Keep your child indoors and warm, resting (this is a good time for quality time and movies with your child!) Skip all sugary food during illness, since the immune system cannot function well on sugar.  Breakfast should be fruit first, then a warm cereal (either oatmeal or cream of rice etc... water only!!!  Skip any type of soft drinks or dairy products, they can aggravate the symptoms.  Make sure your child is blowing his or her nose, my daughter just got over a cold and I had to remind her constantly.  It decreases the likely hood of prolonging the infection.  Cold weather does not cause colds!!!  It does lower resistance to fight them off, so your mom was right, just indirectly!  Also, it is imperitive that your children stay away from cigarette smoke (even the lingering smell on clothing can trigger the immune system to produce more mucus) of course you already know that!!!  The most important advice I can give you is to nuture your child when they are sick, there is no medicine more powerful than mom or dad snuggling and stroking the back of a sick child!!  The key is to get them well early (you may have to keep your child home and resting, longer than they want, but it pays off) so the likelyhood of them getting something more serious such as bronchitis or pneumonia is greatly decreased!! I am sorry this is so long, thanks for reading it and please let me know what you think!!
