Research Study:
Infants of
Depressed and Non-Depressed Mothers:
Responses to
Infant-Directed Singing
Mothers
of infants who are 3 to 9 months old are invited to participate in a special
research project. The project will
examine the ways that mothers and infants interact, when mothers feel depressed
or do not feel depressed. All mothers
are invited to participate.
As part of this project, you and your infant will be
videotaped while you sing to your infant.
Your singing voice will also be recorded. In addition, you will complete an informed
consent form, a demographic questionnaire and a depression scale. Your parenting skills will not be assessed as
part of this project, nor will your musical skills. Ultimately, the results should help determine
effective ways that mothers can interact with their infants.
If you would like to participate in this project, please call
or email me to make an appointment. The
appointment will last no more than one hour and will take place on the
University of Miami Coral Gables campus.
You will need to bring your baby with you to the appointment. At the end of your appointment, you will
receive a $25.00 Winn-Dixie gift card and your baby will receive a compact disc
of lullabies. You may also receive a
free consultation regarding your infant’s behavior.
If you drive to the appointment, you will receive a free
parking permit. If you take the
Metro-rail to the appointment, you will be reimbursed for two tokens. Your participation in this project is
completely voluntary. I look forward to
meeting you and your baby!
