My daughter loves to pretend so I thought about getting the kitchen playset for Christmas. Any thoughts on brands would be great. What age did you buy your child one, is 2 too young?

Thanks!!

My in-laws are getting one for my 2-yr-old for her birthday.  I wish I could tell you the brand, but I remember they said the reviews on it (with Toys R Us) said it was good for kids who climbed, because it didn't tip over.

We bought a cute set for our daughter at 18 mos. (she's not quite 2 now). It's a KidKraft retro set - I think we got it on mytoybox.com. My neighbor bought the Pottery Barn one but I think those are super expensive. My mom brought this little sturdy plastic one home (oven, sink, stove) combo that she found at a neighorhood sale - and my daughter loves it more then any other! It's nothing fancy but I think that's the point. You can spend a ton on the cool pink retro ones but most little girls just like something they can have fun with and do some pretend cooking. I found that the pots/pan/utensil sets you can get a Target or Wal-Mart really add to the fun. I even gave my child some wooden spoons and plastic measuring cups that we didn't use anymore! Good luck.

Well I have all boys of course (although my 24 mth. old loves playing with those sets, they have one at his daycare, and my sister's house), but got my neice one last year from Walmart.  Don't remember the brand, but its a nice one, and comes with all kinds of goodies, and she loves it.  She was a little younger than two at the time, so you should be ok, I don't think its too young at all.

Caryn,

I bought my daughter a Kitchen playset this past Christmas and it was the best toy ever!  She still plays with it EVERYDAY.  She was 27 months at the time.  I worried that it would be too much for her when I was shopping for it so I made sure to get one that didn't have lots of small pieces.  I can't remember the name of the set but I purchased it online from JCPenney's for $35 and had to put it together.  It was a great buy and just perfect for her (3 sections: washer/sink, ironing board/drying rack, and oven) and is versatile so it can be arranged to fit the space where it will stand, in any combination.  Her older brothers have fallen on it several times horseplaying and wrestling near it but it has held up pretty well.  When we move to a home later this year, I will purchase one that is more sturdy and for a 3 year old (she turns 3 in September).

I hope you find one that suits your daughter!

Warmly,

Nichelle

We purchased a Step2 for my daughter last year. She was 22 months @ the time. She loved it and she still does. She prepares meals for us everyday...LOL. We purchased it at Walmart. It was about $70. I know it seems like a lot, but she will definitely play with this in the years to come. I don't see her getting tired of any time soon.

Both of my kids were obsessed with play kitchens from about 1on. We only had a tiny toddler-sized one, and my daughter got bored with it eventually, but my son still loves to play with bigger kitchens when we go on playdates. I'm going to get one for him for his birthday (he'll be 3).  I saw a cute one at Costco that was nice, but pricey.  I think Target has a plastic one on sale this month that looks nice too.
