I'm a Seattle mother of twins and am trying to get some online signatures for a family in our local twins group. See below:

We are Stephanie and Matt Jewett, parents of twin girls that were assigned to different schools for Kindergarten.  We have been trying since April to have both of our girls assigned to any of our many neighborhood schools – just the same one!  To date the only resolutions offered are to bus our girls to separate neighborhood schools, or to bus them more than an hour plus, one-way, to a school far from where we live.

When our story was covered by The Seattle Times we heard from many other parents that have had their children assigned to separate schools during the enrollment process.  We have joined together to form, Keep Our Kids Together.org

Please select the link below to sign our petition
www.keepourkidstogether.org

We need your signatures by Monday, August 18
Please sign only once

We are intending to present the signatures at the August 20 board meeting

We are requesting two straightforward enrollment process changes to improve the odds siblings will be assigned to the same school when that is the choice of the parent.

Do not break the Sibling Link.  If either child does not gain acceptance to their first choice school, maintain the Link through all choices during the enrollment process.

Allow multiples to enroll with a single lottery number

We need your help!  Please help us distribute the petition.  Mail this message to other parents, friends, and colleagues.  Please post this message to online groups.

If you would like more information please visit our website at www.keepourkidstogether.org, or contact us at info@keepourkidstogether.org

Thank you for your help and support.

- Stephanie and Matt Jewett

I do not have twins but I do have children that are 15 months apart. I cannot believe that the school system does this! what are they thinking. it is so hard for kids to start school but then to take their best friend - sibling that is close to them away??

I do live in puyallup so I dont know how much this is going to matter for you. but I took your post and emailed it to everyone I know so they can sign. I also signed for me.

Can my husband sign it too?

Just a quick update -- we have over 300 signatures in just two days - thank you, thank you, thank you!

Please forward the link to the petition to everyone you can think of. Please post to any online groups you can. We have had super response from the online mom groups around the city.

Two board members told me that "volume" counts - please encourage all adults in the house to sign the petition. We also need representation from all areas of the SPS district.

Stories from other families will also have a big impact. If you know of a family with multiples or singletons that received separate school assignments please ask them to contact me at step0901j@hotmail.com, or info@keepourkidstogether.org - either way the message will get to me.
