At what point do you stop "making" your teen attend events he or she doesn't want to?  For example, a family event.  My teen can stay home unsupervised and has grown tired of attending certain family events I feel she should (an aunt's birthday, for example).  I don't want to "force" her since she's older now, but feel she should be present at family functions.  Where do you draw the line?

We were never allowed to skip any family event unless we were sick.   Family time is important, but maybe there are things that can be done to prevent your teen from being too bored while they're there, like bringing a friend or some games.  Maybe events can be prioritized, so your teen can skip a few in return for going to the rest.  I remember my dad saying, "This is important and you WILL GO."  And now I'm glad I spent time with those relatives who have passed on.
