"the word-of-mouth survival guide for SAN FRANCISCO parents"
I have decided to help recruit for the non-profit group EF Educational
Homestay. I worked for them in CA for the summer and enjoyed it very
much. Exchange students come to learn English and American Culture.
Some come to immerse into homes and only go to class once a week.
Others, go to class daily and have activities scheduled to view the
sites, etc. It was a blessing to have students in my home. When China
had an earthquake, I was actually worried about people I knew! All of
them are well. I believe with the tragedies surrounding us today,
hurricanes, earthquakes, September 11th, and the like it is important
to have exposure to other people and cultures. This is one way to be a
missionary from home. If you have extra space, a bed (they are allowed
to share with same sex) or room, you could host students this
July/August for 3 week stays. Students are from Taiwan, France, or
Spain. If you have the ability to provide food, friendship and a place
to sleep then you qualify! We look for volunteers who will take 1-4
students (depending on your space) and show them what it is like to be
a part of the American experience.
If this sounds interesting feel
free to contact me. Last year I had 4 students and loved it. Phoebe
still talks about her friends from China. It is a great experience for
the whole famly.
Thanks,

If you are still interested, some info on Driving etc:
Spanish
group is here July 3-30th and attends scheduled activities only 1-1 1/2
times per week. They stay with the family to experience the culture
rather attend classes daily. They will need to get to Olympia/Lacey for
their weekly meetup.
French will be here July 15-Aug 11th. Their
schedules the same as the Spanish. You are welcome to take both a
French and Spanish student but not two from the same place. This helps
them speak and learn more English.
Both of these groups range in age from 15-19 years of age.
The
Taiwanese are here July 13-August 1st. They attend daily classes at
Trinity Christian Church in Puyallup. They are taken by bus to
activities so they are in class 1/2 days then out and about.
The
nice thing about this is you can get the group rate on any activity and
you and your family may jump on the bus and go along. You don't have to
of course! These students are ages 9-13. (yes they are so cute!!)
Breakfast,
lunch (sack for Taiwanese) and dinner are provided by the host
families. If you teach them to make themselves at home, they can make
their own lunches. In my experience, they have loved to help and
sincerely want to be a part of your family.
EF is a non-profit
organization and looks for volunteer host families. If cost of food
would be the ONLY thing stopping you then ask about the grocery stipen
for those families who have the space, but need the help.
THANK YOU AGAIN. Pass it on to anyone you know.
Will your church or business let me post or share information? ANYTHING your do is appreciated. Exchange Students need your help! Seattle- Stores, Restaurants, Services, Products, Activities, Events
