My 2 year old really just wont go potty on the potty..we had a normal potty for him, but he's a chunker and it would cut into his little thighs..so we got him a potty that sits on our toilet with a step stool..He has only gone once on he potty (the old one)...we've tried stickers, candy, books, everything. I even took a family members advice and put him on there once every hour...tried to just put him in undies (that went bad)..I've tried letting him sit on there for a while..he learned how to get off the potty...So any advice on how to help him go potty would be nice..thank you

This may not be the "advice" that you had in mind....BUT...I also have a 21/2 year old son who does not care to potty train right now. My advice is to -wait- and give him time. Pushing him and stressing yourself won't help. He may not be ready. My daughter was completely trained by 2. It was soooo easy! My neighbor didn't start potty training her son until he was three and it was a piece of cake. Don't get me wrong---I would talk about it with him--encouraging him to tell you when he needs to be cleaned etc. But I don't know too many kindergarten students who are not potty trained. You'll see--he will be more willing with time. Good Luck!

Give him time.  Lots of children aren't trained until much later.  I know it is hard to wait, changing diapers is a drag.

When we taught our daughter we did an intensive week of learning, going to the potty every 20 minutes, talking about it, reading books, watching videos, you name it.  Then we dropped it.  We didn't mention it for 2 months, then started offering diapers or underpants each morning.  One morning 3 months after the inital potty blitz she chose underpants and we haven't looked back.  It has to be their own choice, we are there to teach and guide but we can't make them do it.

Good luck!

OMG, Im in the same boat with my daughter. She refuses to go to the potty, she will sit there, she will hold it for 6 hours then go potty in her under wear. We have tried with cookies, stickers, a new baby doll, m&m's (her fav), we even took away dipers and told her that the little babies need them. (she thinks she is a baby still so that really didnt work). So I decided instead of streeing her out and myself we would wait. She starts preschool the end of this month and the preschool said they will help with pooty training. Like one other said, I dont know of any kindergardener that wears dipers so I pray this will work and she will just decide Im going to be a big girl.

 Good Luck

Hi Wifey,

I teach kids 2 1/2 and up toilet training.  The class is Booty Camp.  Check out our web site at www.bootycampmom.com.  I need five kids for an up coming shoot on 10/17/08.  It will be filmed by an Ohio news station whom are doing a feature on potty training.  They are  going to have a positive spin on the subject and are very excited.  We have done this many times already tastfully, check out the web for clips.  I am inviting you to be in the class.  If you are interested, please contact me a.s.a.p., and we can check availability and see if this style would work for you and your child.  I do ask that you do not have anything planned for the following three days after the class.  This allows time for me to tweak it to each individual child if needed.

Sincerely,

Wendy Sweeney, RN
