Was wondering if any of you have come up with any good alternatives to grounding your kids when they misbehave.  My son seems to not mind it at all, so it's no longer acting as a good deterrent.

What we have started to use as another discipline method.... which has been working well, PLUS is somewhat educational.. Is we have my kids WRITE!   I don't know how old your son is, my kids are daughter 12 and son 8.  Neither of them like to write.... especially not one sentence 50 or 100 times!  It takes my kids about the same amount of time to do the "disicipline" writing, and then they are FREE to go on with their day.   BUT also, while writing, they have to write so we can read it and every word must be in the sentence and spelled right, or they write more!

I was AMAZED how well this works!  It has stopped some of the behavior that my kids were doing for getting into trouble, and all at the same time, they are perfecting their writing skills!!!  which is the educational part, along with learning how to spell some of the words they are writing (for my son anyway!)

Normally, they get a choice, either write.... stand in the corner (for 10 minutes which does NOT start until they have stopped mouthing because they had to go to the corner) or lose their TV in their room, which then means that they are NOT allowed to come down and watch it in our living room... this only works for my daughter, my son could careless.. he isn't into watching TV unless monster trucks or the Nascar race is on!

And the writing is just what they got into trouble for.....   EX.

I will NOT back talk my mother anymore.    I will not fight with my mom when she is trying to help me ..........(to whatever it is they got into trouble for)

I remember in school, I am 35, when we got caught doing something wrong at school, we had to write! I hated it!!!    Then my "bright daughter", who is in 6th grade... moving to 7th grade this fall (high school for our town)  tells me the FIRST time she had to write for me at home?   She said,  Yeah, I got caught chewing gum in Mr. H room and had to write 25 times that I will not chew gum in his class!!!   Funny, she had never told me about it while school was in session!!!!   I said, well, then, did you ever chew gum again????   She said, NO!  I don't like to write sentences!  And I had always been on her about wanting to take gum to school, that they are not allowed to chew it there, why do you need to take it???  Only an accident waiting to happen!!!

Well, enough from me, If you try it... I hope it helps!  Take Care and Thanks!

What a great idea!  My son (who is 8) isn't all that fond of writing, either.  I'll definitley try it.  Thanks!
