This didn't used to be a controversial topic, but now is.  I have several friends who are new mothers and it seems to be an ongoing debate with some moms refusing to vaccinate and others thinking that it's irresponsible.  Have any of you come across this?

I have heard of parents who are concerned about the effects of the vaccinations and there are people who believe that there may still be something ( mercury) used as a preservative in the vaccinations that may cause problems such as autism.  There is a lot of research on both sides, so I won't go into detail.  My personal POV is that I believe not giving my daughter a vaccination is more dangerous, as I would be exposing her to polio, measles, whooping cough, and other diseases that could kill her.  I personally believe it would be irresponsible for me, a parent living near a border with a country with poor medical care, to leave my daughter vulnerable.  My daughter has never reacted badly to the vaccines, and it was important to me, my husband, and my pediatrician to vaccinate her on schedule.  I think all new parents should discuss this with their pediatricians and make an informed decision.  Don't read stuff on the internet, as you never know who wrote it.  Listen to the APA and your doctor.

Hi.  Yes, I decided to vaccinate mine -- for pretty much the same reasons.  Appreciate the feedback.
