When did you stop breastfeeding? I know the average is 6 months, but more is recommended. Was the transition difficult for you/your baby?

I wanted to bfeed for a year, but I had to stop at 7 months due to some medicine I was taking.  My DD was just fine with it.  I had already started giving her bmilk in a bottle and supplementing with formula (I wasn't producing enough milk), so she had no problem moving to just formula.  I missed feeding her, but not the pumping at work.  I think you should do the best you can, and not worry about what anyone else was able to do.  Six months isn't so much the average, but the recommended time, with 1 yr being preferred, but that can be hard to do.  Any amount of bfeeding you can do is good for your baby, but with bottles Dad can help with those midnight feedings!

I had to stop last week because I got a steroid shot and strong antibiotics and they didn't mix... she's 7 months and she transitioned like a champ!  My body, on the other hand, hasn't transitioned too well yet.  I heard the pain and production would go on for 3-5 days... tomorrow is one week, and they still hurt, are still like rocks, and not dried up yet...  I've tried several things to dry them up, but nothing so far, though there has been a massive slow down.

Thanks, ladies.

Aivery, that sounds painful.  Hope that's gone now!  :)
