At what age did your son/daughter give up their security blanket? Was it sudden? I know it varies, but I'm curious about people's experiences with it.

Good Morning!  My Isabel is 3.5 yrs. old and shows NO SIGN of giving up her taggie blanket.  As far as I'm concerend - in their small world of big changes like going from a bottle to a sippie or going from a crib to a toddler bed and then going from diapers to pull ups to underwear or even from staying at home with mommy to going to Mother's Day Out, if they have that one constitant piece of security to help them get through these major changes in their little lives - what's really the harm?  She has had the same taggie since she was 3 months old and I personally will allow her to keep it as long as she needs.  But then again - that's just me.  Hope this helps!

My daughter is 12 and my son is 8..... They BOTH still have a "preferred blankey!!"  Not that they call it that, but the two blankets MUST always be ready for them when they need them!!!  Meaning... if it needs washed... do it while they are at school or make sure that I know I can get it washed and dried right away!   It seems that they can't go to sleep at night without them!   Which is fine... it is not like they have had these since they were a baby...  but they have had them for... at least 6 years each... I would say!

I think it is their security, because their father was abusive towards me... and we have separated... and that change is ALWAYS hard, no matter how old the child is.  Which they were 4 and 8 at the time we separated!

Thanks, Kimberly.  I'm sorry to hear about your ex, but so glad you and the kids are in a better place now.
