Topic: When did you start signing with your baby?

I signed with my older 2 later in their life. But because of the research, and the fact that I was teaching it, my youngest got it, literally, at birth! He has about 80 words in combination of signs/spoken, a ton of 2 word (sign/spoken) sentences and a few three word spoken sentences. When did you start? I will also be continuing after he is totally verbal!

We probably started, very casually, when she was maybe 6-8 months.  But her daycare did some, as well.  By the time she was 18 months, she could say, sign or both a vocabulary of about 25 words.  We're continuing with it because it's a good skill, and there are some words she can sign but not speak, yet.  We're used some videos and having daycare do it too also helps.  She's only done 2 signs together at a time, but she'll do 3 spoken words together.  I really think teaching her sign helps the language center of her brain, and it also gives her another way to communicate with us and her friends (who sign, too!)

Some might say this is too early, but my son is nearly three months, and for the past month I have been signing to him. A simple three-word vocabulary that I hope he will eventually pick up himself when he develops better motor skills: Mom, Dad & Milk (which are the three most beloved in his life as well)

Monica is the main reason I even know about signing with babies, but a good friend of mine also suggested it, and has offered to help me learn along the way, as she's a certified teacher of ASL, a court interpreter, and life-long ASL speaker having a deaf sister.

I started around 4 months with my first, 6-8 months with my second and around a year with my third. It seems I got a little behind...LOL, but he's picked it up at lightning speed! At 14 months he speaks a lot of words and signs about 15 words.
