Am I overreacting that my husband lets my son watch Discovery channel?  He is only 4 but loves the shows about science, etc?  There are adult commercials in between, etc.

I think if you are watching with him and you are there to monitor comercials, and more importantly anwser questions, etc, it is fine.  There are some really cool nature shows that kids love, and in my opinioin spark their awareness of the world, and nature.  I wouldn't let him watch it alone though... for both possible in-appropriate content and because it can be confusing for kids...

Hi Yeehawma,

We took TV away as it got totally out of hand. The hypnotic effect it has on young minds is not true development of the mind. There are too many subliminal messages to distract learning even from the "good shows". Ever hear the news broadcasters say: "Thanks for watching our show"? To show someone something is still leaving it up to them to interpret it. Books are for more educational with photos and art to illustrate. Your young child will read sooner, too. Read to your young child and enjoy time together making things and he/she will know a better life purpose instead of only expecting to be entertained. Reading is learning to study and develop ideas. TV is suggesting ideas that corrupt with lazy selfishness. Please excuse my harshness about TV. But it is the culprit in the destruction of my family; now we are rebuilding a family without it. I had to fight it alot. Threw out a few TVs. Painted the screens from being viewed. It is lethal in slow portions of poison. Your conscience knows about the subtle messages in those commercials. They always mix the good with the obscene now. They get away with more and more. All to create lazy selfish Americans for our enemy to destroy us. What can you do for your family? Be wise. Point out the poison to your husband. Don't be fanatic; be wise, as you have that woman's instinct to survive and see an enemy but must convince your captain of your sinking ship.
