Does anyone have any suggestions for traveling for 4 hours with 2 toddlers and NO DVD? We are not taking my car, due to the HIGH gas prices and "daddy's car" doesn't have one... My kids are 2.5 and 1.5...Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Can you borrow a portable dvd player for the trip?   For our long car rides we start at 4am so they will fall back asleep in the car while we're traveling it's worked for us! Good Luck. :)

Do your kids have a leap pad?

All of my kids enjoy playing with their leappads in the car.

I would just pack a "car bag" of treats, board books, leappads, magna doodles, kids CD's , water, anything with buttons an will make noise...

It may be annoying for mom and dad but should keep them somewhat entertained.

Otherwise, singing songs, playing games, etc..

I have made at least 10 trips by myself with my 2.5 year old ( since he was born) to and from Chicago.   I did not have  a DVD player.  Here are some things I do -  I have toys that are specific for the car, they stay in the car and when we are not on long trips I keep them in the trunk.  I try to leave durring the late morning early afternoon- during npatime.    I stop a few times to "rest" and let him get some energy out by walking.

I hope this helps a little

We made frequent stops. (Took 5 kids from 9 mos to 16 yrs to SC from MI). Lots of music and/or books on CD (if that's available). Coloring books, paper, crayons, pencils. Lots of snacks. Plan to spend at least 20 minutes on a stop to give them time to stretch. 4 hours isn't too bad. Leave around nap time and they will sleep at least part of the way. We could get away with one stop in that time if nobody had to go to the bathroom.

Thanks so much for the tips ladies! I am going to try the "special" toys just for cars for long trips...ALTHOUGH, with the gas money being as high as it is, I don't know how many trips we'll be taking this summer.... what does everyone plan to do that has family out of town...THIS IS CRAZY!!
