	It has been an ongoing conversation for a few years, starting in preschool. But my daughter, 6, still talks to everyone. Flag

	There's a great book by Gavin DeBecker called "Protecting the Gift." He also wrote The Gift of Fear. Essentially, if you rely on your instincts, then you don't have to be afraid all of the time. For the book on protecting your kids, he has a list of all of the things that your kids should know about before you let them have the independence that they crave. Stuff like what to do if you're lost, not to trust policemen (they could be a pedophile in a security guard's uniform -- how's a kid to know?), stuff like that. Flag
