My 4 month old will not go down for a nap. She falls asleep on me, the minute I put her down in her crib she wakes up. Any suggestions on how to get her down for a nap?

My DD falls asleep well in the stroller during a walk, and then I leave her in the stroller for her nap.  We have also tried not putting her in her crib, as the motion away from the body, over the crib side and down wakes her up.  Instead, I put a blanket on the floor on her room and lay down with her on me for a few minutes.  Then I can slowly roll her off me onto the blanket, a more natural movement, and she usually stays asleep.

Often, the trick with getting your kids to sleep in the crib is to put them down before they start acting tired. I'm a stay-at-home with two girls and for the first year or so they took three naps a day like clockwork. The trick is to get them down before they get over-tired. You can bet I had some tough days in the beginning with crying and all but you have to stand firm. If you can get your kids onto a solid nap schedule so that they are always well rested they will be happier and so will you!

It's funny because my parents and my sister used to make fun of me because I never strayed from the schedule ( I built my day around it). Then came the first time my parents kept the kids for a week while we took a much-needed vacation. My Mom told my sister, "You know, we make fun of Booray with his schedule and all but those two kids are the easiest children I have ever taken care of in my life! They go down easy, wake up happy, never have meltdowns..."

Oh, and also, on the occasions when they were being unruly, I would sometimes give them some Humphries "3"... seemed to help....

Good luck!
