I buy organic....probably half my groceries are organic.  And honestly they are not that much more expensive.  Another positive point of buying organic is that it is better for the environment.  So if you want to go "green" that's a great way to start.  But it's great that you are buying organic milk...because as much milk that these kids drink they don't need those antibiotic and pesticides in them.  No thanks!!  :)

I go to Whole Foods to buy stuff for my kids like the organic hotdogs that have no nitrites or nitrates in them and are processed on a little bit.  And some other specific items.  Other than that....Kroger's has a great organic dept.

I do think it is worth it.

Do shop around though.

while Meijer and Kroger do have a lot of organic, I do find some items are considerable cheaper at Trader Joe's.

My kids like Gorilla Munch  and Panda Puffs cereals. They are almost half the price at Trader Joes.

Organic milk is often cheaper there too.

But , overall I like the selection at Meijer. They have a whole line of their own brand of organics  and a pretty decent selection of produce which we buy all the time.

Luckily our Meijer and Trader Joes are across the street from each other so I can hit both at one time.

Hello!

I TRY to buy organic when it fits into our budget.  Our household goes through atleast 5 gallons of milk each week, and I just don't find it possible to pay over $5 for a half gallon of milk especially having only one income.    I am looking forward to moving so we can start a garden of our own though!

The expiration date on organic milk is triple the time of the regular stuff. That has to say there is a difference. Currently I only buy organic eggs & milk.

I would say the majority of the items I buy are eggs and milk and snacks for the kids.  I rarely buy organic fruit because it's just not as good tasting.  And it takes the bananas forever to ripen.  I just buy the fruit and vegetable cleaner and wash them really good :)

I choose locally produced over organic when I have the choice. There are times when I find organics on sale or for a better price than regular stuff. It IS more expensive and while some people can justify the cost, without sales we can't.

Also take into account the fuel costs involved in getting the food. Trader Joes is a 40 minute one way drive for me, we cannot afford to spend that much for slightly cheaper food ya know? Whole Foods is an hour one way, again not cost effective for us. Kroger has a decent organic section, I have frequently found eggs on sale there as well as fresh fruits/veggies for less than conventionally grown items. We don't buy a lot of prepackaged stuff and with WIC you cannot get organic anything anyway. I think it's easiest to look at the items you eat and then check for organics and price them out. If it's worth the difference for you, then why not? If not, then choose what is worth the cost and start there.

Yes, mother of two I'm big into Organic for my growing boys.  Even more so after someone was telling me about their two boys growing "Breasts"  doc said it was from the hormones?  ewww?   Costo, BIG organic section.  I'm looking into getting a 1/4 of a cow--need to find a farmer at Armada fair this year.  Milk IS  a biggie as well as meat.  Of couse some veggis and fruits more than others.  Rasberries, strawberries, grapes important to go organic....  I do shop Whole Foods and Kroger too.

ok, that is gross...boys growing breasts?? Husbands?? Maybe...lol, just kidding. It is very disturbing and I think Trader Joe's is a great store, but it's far for me as well. I do organic milk, but lately I have been seeing (at VG's) they have all their milk labeled, "NO HORMONES"...what does this mean?? Is it as safe as the organic??

I used to get milk from Caldor Dairy downriver. They don't give their cows hormones and only use antibiotics when the animals are ill. The issue with conventional milk is that not only are there hormones in it, there also may be antibiotics and other stuff in it based on how the farm treats the cows. I use hormone free milk when I can, we get WIC which specifically prohibits organic anything so we make do with what we have.

Yep, we have to make due with what we have.  Grocery prices are going up with the gas, its terrible.  I try to grow my own "orgainic" vegtables and fruit.  I think if you had to pick one thing to do "orgainc" it would be Milk ( I wish I could get my own cow  :)

That they say is the most important one to buy.  Walmart has tons of organic and their own milk.  I just read an article that they are 30% less than Meijer!

Women, Infants, and Children. It's a supplimental food program, we get "checks" for things like milk, eggs, cereal, and juice. Organics are not allowed.
