Quote Great zoo! Just be sure to pack your lunch because the in-zoo places to buy lunch are waaaaay too expensive and not that good. The animals are great and don't miss the elephant house.

Cabin John Regional Park

Quote Cabin John is a great park! We liked it better though, in years past, when they had an incredible climbing and adventure playground, all the way up a huge hill, you could climb ropes, towers, obstacle course, climb giant slides - you had to be careful to not lose your kid in there and if you brought friends along, you needed to be able to point your eyes in different directions to not lose track of them. All gone, replaced with run-of-the-mill safety equipment - nice and safe, which of course is important - but no more adventure. The train is still cool, as is the little piggy that eats trash.

Sligo Creek Park

Quote This is a great park, low key, lots of fun to walk or bike down the trails and stop at a few playgrounds along the way, play around in the creek, and so forth. Also picnic tables so nice for a picnic lunch, but the tables tend to fill up quickly, and sometimes there's a wasp/yellow jacket problem around the eating areas.

IKEA

Quote This is a great Ikea - great products, great prices, great restaurant, great layout, convenient access, lots of parking. The only problem? Have a lot of energy and be ready to make a day of it. Have a good idea of what you want and the measurements you need. The place is so huge that you can lose your sense of scale, and end up buying stuff that looks great in the spacious store, and too crowded once you get it home. Also stick to your budget tightly, or you end up spending $1000 that you didn't mean to.

Target

12000 Cherry Hill Rd, Silver Spring, MD, 20904

Quote This is a great Target, well stocked, great prices, great hours, very convenient. The problem with this one is that nine times out of ten they'll overcharge at the cash register, in my experience. It happens so frequently that I sometimes wonder whether it's the policy, to make some extra money. So when you shop here, just be sure to check your receipt carefully, every time, before you even leave the cash register.

KB Toys

11160 Viers Mill Rd, Silver Spring, MD, 20902

Quote This KB Toys store used to be great to stop by quickly and pick up a fun cheap toy. It went out of business years ago though, long before the bankruptcy of the KB Toys chain.

Toys R Us

10901 Georgia Ave, Wheaton, MD, 20902

Quote This used to be my favorite Toys R Us, although it had a problem with rude staff - just refused to load heavy stuff in the car for me - told me to do it myself! Even so, it was convenient and well stocked. But, it's gone out of business a few years ago, replaced by a Best Buy.

KB Toys

Quote We used to love KB Toys, they always had great prices. They went bankrupt recently, and had a going out of business sale just before Christmas with great prices. The City Place location has always been a bit iffy as that mall had gotten run down soon after opening.

Babies R Us

12012 Cherry Hill Rd, Silver Spring, MD, 20901

Quote I always liked Babies R Us for the selection and the prices. This particular one - the Cherry Hill Road store - is more often than not a problem in terms of the service. They don't have enough cashiers, the cashiers are rude, they order the customers around instead of politely asking (when they want you to stand in a different line, or bag it yourself or whatever). The store had deteriorated so badly that in recent years, I just don't go there. It's more pleasant to search the web for the best deals and order online.

Buy Buy Baby

1683 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD, 20852
Written on: 3/3/2009 by DearPinchy
Quote Buy Buy Baby is a great store, has everything that you could want to find. They tend toward the high-end and expensive, but if you watch the sales, close-outs, specials and coupons, you can get good deals. The most serious drawback - the traffic up and down Rockville Pike is always miserable - so it's really only worth it if you have several stops to do on the same trip.
